Second-year Mizzou volleyball coach Dawn Sullivan was named 2024 AVCA Central Region Coach of the Year. She led the Tigers to the Sweet 16 for the fifth time in program history after tournament wins over Texas State and SMU the first weekend. The Tigers finished the regular season 22-8. Mizzou will play Kentucky at noon Thursday in Pittsburgh. The Tigers are 0-2 this season against the Cats. Mizzou lost the last 13 matches against Kentucky, returning to the 2017 season, the last time they made the Sweet 16.
Three Mizzou football players have been selected for All-Southeastern Conference honors by the 16 head coaches. Junior wide receiver Luther Burden III was tapped for first-team honors for the second consecutive season, while junior offensive lineman Armand Membou and senior defensive lineman Johnny Walker Jr. were chosen as second-team honorees. The Tigers completed a 9-3 regular season including a 5-3 SEC finish, earning their fifth-straight bowl berth under Head Coach Eliah Drinkwitz.
After just one season, the Mizzou Tigers are losing one of their top recruits. Former five-star defensive end Williams Nwaneri put his name in the transfer portal yesterday. Nwaneri was the sixth-best player nationally in the 2024 recruiting class. However, he was buried on the depth chart during his freshman season. Nwaneri made just four appearances, and he finished the season with just two tackles and one sack.
