Putting the state’s agriculture at the forefront of energy innovation is the goal of a future center at the University of Missouri. University President Mun Choi announced that it will open the Center for Rural Energy Security.
He said the location will focus on rural energy, innovation, and policy.
“Rural energy policies have such a big impact on the producers in the state, and we want to make sure that the producers are at the table helping us define the problems and eventually the solutions. So, this is a first of its kind in the United States, and we’re so happy that we’re starting it in Missouri,” Choi told Brownfield Ag News.
He said the center will also focus on issues critical to the future of agriculture.
“Our goal is innovation, whether it’s in renewable energy or traditional fossil fuel energy, but more importantly, the policies that will enable farmers and the agricultural community to be at the forefront of energy innovation,” said Choi.
And while the center will be the first-of-its-kind in the nation, Choi hopes Missouri will start a trend.
“As part of this center is to be the national model to develop ideas that make sense for Missourians, but that can be translated throughout the United States,” said Choi.
He made the announcement during the Missouri Farm Bureau’s annual meeting.
