(Washington, D.C.) President-elect Donald Trump has chosen former southwest Missouri Congressman Billy Long to be the new IRS commissioner.
As IRS commissioner, Long would be responsible for overseeing the country’s tax system. That includes managing and supervising tax regulation and policy, as well as enforcing internal revenue laws.
Long was elected to the U.S. House in 2010, succeeding Roy Blunt, and served until 2023. He was a U.S. Senate candidate in 2022, but lost in the Republican primary.
Long has been a loyal supporter of Trump’s. On social media, Trump said that he’s known Long since 2011, calling him an “extremely hard worker” and “respected by all.”
I will not be issuing a blanket pardon, but I will be issuing a blanket thank you because I can’t keep up with all of you as fast as my phone is blowing up. Thank you. Let’s get to work! 👍👍🇺🇸
