(St. Louis, MO) — Aerospace manufacturer Boeing plans to lay off nearly 700 Missouri workers, beginning in January.

The company has informed the Missouri Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development about the decision. The move will affect employees at its St. Charles, St. Louis, Berkeley, Hazelwood, Kansas City, Kingsville, Maryland Heights, O’Fallon, and St. Ann locations.

Boeing has about 16,700 workers in the St. Louis area.

The company has been dealing with financial problems and a recent worker strike that affects its bottom line.
