Today is Veterans Day. All federal, state, and local government offices are closed today. Post offices will be closed and there will be no mail delivery today. Most banks and financial institutions will likely be closed today as well.

Holiday hours may vary among Missouri’s DMV offices and libraries.

Essential services, such as hospitals and jails, will still be operating. Most Missouri retail stores are expected to be open.

Several Veterans Day ceremonies are also scheduled in Missouri today, including a wreath-laying ceremony at the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Veterans Day, originally named Armistice Day, marked the end of World War I, which ended at 11 a.m. Central European Time on November 11th, 1918.

The U.S. government changed the holiday’s name to Veterans Day in 1954 to honor all American veterans in all wars.
