With Donald Trump headed back to the White House in January, it’s possible that he could take a few members of Missouri’s congressional delegation with him.
Sen. Eric Schmitt’s name has been brought up as a possible choice for U.S. Attorney General, in part because he used to serve as Missouri’s top law enforcement officer. Schmitt called the attention “flattering,” but told Missourinet that joining Trump’s Cabinet has never been his focus.
“My focus has been working as hard as I can to represent the people of Missouri, to help President Trump get elected, help JD Vance get elected, help Senate candidates around the country get elected, help the statewide slate here get elected. I wasn’t on the ballot. I wanted to do everything I could, because I thought there’s a lot on the line. There is a lot on the line. And that’s been the entirety of my focus. That’s the God’s honest truth,” said Schmitt.
An article in Politico names northern Missouri Congressman Sam Graves as a top contender for Transportation Secretary. Schmitt said that Graves would be an excellent choice.
“I think if Sam wants to do it, he’d be great. I’m a big fan of Sam Graves. He’s been a real leader on transportation issues. We work closely together on a lot of things. I’m on the Commerce Committee, and so that we have transportation under our jurisdiction as well. And so, he’s been a great colleague to work with, if that’s something that he wanted to do.”
Graves currently chairs the U.S. House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
