St. Louis attorney Dave Wasinger has won the race to become Missouri’s next lieutenant governor. Wasinger defeated Democrat Richard Brown and Libertarian Ken Iverson Tuesday night.
Like fellow Republican Mike Kehoe, who won last night’s governor’s race, cracking down on crime is Wasinger’s number one priority.
“Public safety affects everything in Missouri, including tourism,” Wasinger told Missourinet. “So, one of the responsibilities of the lieutenant governor is tourism. If people don’t feel safe in, whether it’s downtown St. Louis, downtown Kansas City, they’re not going to come up to a St. Louis Cardinals game from Arkansas, Kentucky or Tennessee.”
As lieutenant governor, Wasinger would be the top advocate for the state’s senior citizens, military veterans, and tourism. He said that Missouri should be a beacon of hope for its military community.
“It ties into what I said about the veterans, these VA homes and that you see a lot of homeless veterans out on the streets,” Wasinger said. “So, there’s a lot of mental illness, lot of mental addiction that can be addressed with our great veterans. So, there’s a laundry list of things that need to be helped in which the veterans can be helped with.”
He also said that he plans to be a top advocate for Missouri’s senior citizens.
“So, we need to look at these senior living facilities and making sure our elderly be taken care of. I’ve had some personal experience where that hasn’t been the case,” he said. “I’ve talked to, I’ve lost count of the number of people that have had a bad experience in some of these senior living facilities. So that will also be a big issue for me as lieutenant governor.”
Wasinger was born and raised in northeast Missouri’s Hannibal.
