The Kansas City Chiefs improved to 8-0 this season with a thrilling 30-24 overtime win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on “Monday Night Football” at Arrowhead Stadium. Trailing by seven in the fourth quarter, quarterback Patrick Mahomes, despite injuring his ankle, rallied the Chiefs with two touchdown passes, including one during a crucial 15-play, eight-minute drive. Although Bucs quarterback Baker Mayfield managed a last-minute touchdown to force overtime, the Chiefs secured the win with a touchdown on the opening drive. DeAndre Hopkins, recently acquired from the Tennessee Titans, made a significant impact with eight catches for 86 yards and two touchdowns.

In their season opener, Memphis rallied in the second half to overcome a 10-point halftime deficit and defeat Missouri 83-75. Despite a strong start from Mizzou, led by sophomore Anthony Robinson II with a career-high 16 points and seven assists, Memphis took control after halftime, mounting a 24-7 run to turn a 13-point deficit into a 60-56 lead. PJ Haggerty’s scoring surge, including a seven-point spurt, widened Memphis’s lead to eight, ultimately securing the victory as Missouri couldn’t close the gap beyond five in the closing minutes.
Mizzou women’s basketball dropped its 2024-25 season opener to Vermont, 62-46, Monday night at Roy L. Patrick Arena. Sophomore guard Grace Slaughter led the way for the Tigers with 16 points and three rebounds, going eight for eight from the free throw line.
The Royals agreed to a three-year, $51 million contract with pitcher Michael Wacha, including $4 million in bonuses and a potential max value of $72 million. Wacha, 33, declined a $16 million option before signing this deal, which will pay him $18 million in 2025 and 2026, and $14 million in 2027. Coming off a strong season with a 3.35 ERA over 29 starts and 166 ⅔ innings, Wacha’s contract also includes a $14 million club option with $4 million in incentives and a $1 million buyout.
The St. Louis Blues will try to get a winning streak going when they host the Tampa Bay Lightning at Enterprise Center tonight. The Blues are coming off a 4-2 win over the Toronto Maple Leafs this past Saturday. St. Louis is in fifth place in the Central Division with 12 points and a 6-6-and-0 record. Tonight’s game starts at 7:00 p.m. The Blues will be without defenseman Philip Broberg.
