Missouri House Minority Leader Crystal Quade hopes to earn the title of governor in the general election. The Springfield Representative became the Democratic nominee for governor in August’s primary election.

Regarding illegal immigration, Quade wants Missouri’s congressional delegation to pass the bipartisan immigration bill.

“As governor, you know, our job is to keep Missouri safe. And our Missouri Highway Patrol and our law enforcement officers are vastly understaffed, underfunded. My priorities will be, of course, making sure that our communities are safe here at home and, again, leaning on our federal delegation to get something done at the federal level,” she told Missourinet.

She said that she will work with Missouri’s congressional delegation to pass the bill.

Quade responds to arguments from the right saying that she supports a “woke liberal agenda” which results in higher costs for essentials.

“My record speaks for itself in Jefferson City,” Quade said. “I have been a sponsor of legislation that gets rid of food taxes. I have been sponsoring all sorts of childcare solutions, whether that’s working on the tax credits or doing our state subsidies and having lots of conversations around the things that deeply impact folks every single day.”

She argues that Democrats will peel away at the state’s Republican supermajority in the House and Senate during this election cycle.

If elected, Quade said a day one priority would be to review the government agencies and who works there.

“One of them is making sure that the things we promised to Missourians are being done well and doing effectively,” she said. “You know we have been getting a lot of dings over the last few months and years around our Medicaid wait times, around losing children in the foster care system. I have folks contacting me about DMV wait times, how it takes sometimes over an hour to get a driver’s license renewed.”

Quade will face Republican nominee Mike Kehoe, Green Party candidate Paul Lehmann, and Libertarian Bill Slantz in the November general election.
