The leader of the Missouri National Guard is moving to Europe and moving up in rank. Major General Levon E. Cumpton, The Adjutant General of the Missouri National Guard has been chosen as the U.S. Army Europe and Africa’s Chief of Staff and Deputy Commanding General for the Army National Guard. His new position begins in February 2025.
Governor Mike Parson congratulated General Cumpton, saying has “built an incredibly strong team for the Missouri National Guard…and his and devotion to his home state have helped bring greater opportunity to thousands of Missourians.”
General Cumpton has served as adjutant general in Missouri since August of 2019, with command and control of over 12,000 soldiers, airmen, and federal and state employees. A press release from the governor’s office notes that during his tenure, Cumpton led the state national guard through the COVID-19 pandemic and numerous relief efforts during floods, winter storms, and other natural disasters.
The next governor of the State of Missouri will appoint General Cumpton’s replacement.
