Arizona kicked a 32-yard field goal as time expired and the Cardinals beat the LA Chargers 17-15 dropping LA to 3-3. The Chiefs control the AFC West with their 6-0 record. Denver is 4-3, followed by LA, and the Raiders at 2-5. Vegas has lost three straight and that’s where the Chiefs are headed next. The Raiders are signing quarterback Desmond Ritter off the Cardinals practice squad after Aidan O’Connell broke his thumb this weekend. He replaced Gardner Minshew last week who is tied for an NFL-worst ten turnovers. The Chiefs are favored by ten. 3:25 p.m. kick at Vegas on Sunday. Kansas City is looking for their ninth straight AFC West title.
Jon Jay is coming back to the St. Louis Cardinals. The 2011 World Series champion was hired to the team’s coaching staff. Jay was a first base coach with Miami the past two seasons under another former Cardinal, Skip Schumaker, who was the manager. Miami did not retain Schumaker after the team went 62-100 in the midst of another rebuild.
College football. Southeast Missouri reached its highest national ranking in program history at #6 in the Coaches and Media polls. The Redhawks are 7-1 and have won six straight ahead of their Homecoming game this Saturday against Gardner-Webb. Missouri State is 18th in the polls. The Bears are up two spots and have won five straight. The Bears are at Northern Iowa, a team they historically have struggled against, but Missouri State is 3-0 in conference play, the Panthers 0-3.
21st-ranked Mizzou travels to number 15 Alabama, a Crimson Tide team that is very beatable. They’ve lost two of their last three including the huge upset loss at Vandy. Alabama squeezed out a 27-25 win over South Carolina and lost at Tennessee. First-year head coach Kalen DeBoer says the team can’t mesh right now on offense or defense. For Mizzou, after the comeback by Brady Cook, the question lingers, how healthy and how mobile will he be on Saturday at 2:30?
The St. Louis Blues go for their third straight win when they host the Winnipeg Jets at Enterprise Center tonight. The Blues are coming off a 4-3 home win over the Carolina Hurricanes last Saturday. St. Louis is in fourth place in the Central Division with eight points and a 4-2-and-0 record.
