The ex-boyfriend of an IRS employee has been arrested and charged in a swatting incident that targeted the Internal Revenue Service offices in Kansas City.
On September 10th, the suspect called 911 in Kansas City and reported that the unidentified woman and worker was armed and threatening to shoot people inside the IRS building. The call prompted a lockdown of a section of the building, and the victim was detained and searched for weapons.
She was confirmed to be unarmed and told officers that she had been trying to break up with the suspect, and that he had threatened to “involve the police” in text messages sent that morning. He allegedly admitted to police that he intended to “make trouble” for the woman at work.
The 46-year-old man is being held in federal custody pending a hearing scheduled Friday.
