The event known as the “premier fireworks championship of the United States” won’t be happening this year in Missouri. The annual Sky Wars competition has been canceled for 2024.

It was set to take place this Saturday, September 28th, in eastern Missouri’s Innsbrook. The cancellation is due to heavy rain in the forecast this weekend. The event organizers released a statement on Sky Wars’ website.

“This decision was not made lightly,” the statement reads in part. “Our fireworks field has already received between five and seven (inches) of rain this week, depending on your source. We have been in contact with the Warren County Emergency Management Agency, who have consulted with the National Weather Service, who inform us to expect an additional three (inches) of rain on Friday 9/27 and on Saturday 9/28”.

This year’s Sky Wars competition was sold out. The statement also said that tickets will automatically roll over to next year’s event, securing the ticketholder’s spot “at our 2024 prices.” Those wanting a refund will be able to get one.
