Missouri is back in business with the film industry.
After a more than ten-year hiatus, Missouri restored its tax credit program last year for the film and music industries.
Explore St. Louis Film Office Manager Kelley Hiatt said Missouri has approved 12 productions since restarting the program.
“Since the tax credit was passed this past fall, we’ve seen a huge uptick,” she told KMOX Radio in St. Louis. “There’s absolutely more production happening here in St Louis.”
Hiatt said the program has been a major incentive for filmmakers.
“Productions are not going to really look at regions that don’t have a tax credit unless it’s something that is, you know, privately funded, and there’s a homage to a specific space. You typically would not go to a region without an incentive. So yes, it has put us back on the board,” she said.
According to Hiatt, Missouri business owners can explore the ability to buy and sell the tax credit, even if they are not in the production business.
