An 11-year-old St. Louis County boy feels like a superhero after stepping in and helping to save the lives of his father and brother. Josh and Peter Miklovic were hiking at Washington State Park when they both fell 80 feet off a bluff and tumbled another 100 feet through steep, rocky terrain in September of 2023. That’s when Louis stepped in.
“I went to go back to the cabins so I can ask like my brother or my aunts or my uncles or my grandpa to call 911, but actually instead, I found a cop car,” he recalled.
He received the Public Safety Civilian Partnership Award from Gov. Mike Parson. The award is for civilians who have provided valuable or courageous assistance to members of a public safety agency in an emergency.
“It was some slippery footing and, like I said, Peter started to slip,” said Louis’ father, Josh. “I grabbed him, and we went down and luckily Louis was there to witness it and he ran for help, and he was able to get it and communicate with who he needed to communicate with. We’re all okay now.”
Josh couldn’t be prouder of his son.
“Super proud. He’s a great, great boy scout,” Miklovic said. “His instincts kicked in and he knew exactly what to do. So, super proud of Louie.”
Josh required multiple surgeries and 150 stitches to close a 9-inch head wound, while Peter had a minor head wound that required nine staples.
