An air show this weekend in Jefferson City will honor the 80th anniversary of the D-Day invasion that led to the defeat of Nazi Germany.

Show Me State Air Show Director Penny Smith told Missourinet that World War II-era aircraft will lift off on Saturday.

“The C-47 That’s All Brother, it was actually the very aircraft that flew on D-Day that led the Airborne Division dropping thousands of paratroopers during that time. We’ll also have, of course, the P-51 Mustang and a TBM Avenger, the B-25,” said Smith.

There will also be several kid-friendly activities, along with military vehicles, and several vendors. Smith said there will be something from everyone.

“And we’ll also have a few World War II vehicles there, military vehicles, ” she said. “Some of the other things that will be there, of course, is more current military, some aerobatics. So, you’ll see our usual flip flopper aircraft that do some crazy things.

The annual event is from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday at the Jefferson City airport. The aerial performances begin at 11 a.m.

Smith expects about 7,000 people per day.

“We all have a passion to be there for our military and our veterans,” she said. “And we also share, you know, a passion for the aviation industry and our communities.”

The event is rain or shine.
