Attorneys for convicted killer Pam Hupp want prosecutors to share DNA evidence with them they believe will prove she didn’t murder her friend in eastern Missouri’s Troy 13 years ago.
Hupp is charged in the 2011 stabbing death of Betsy Faria and is still awaiting trial. She is also currently serving a life sentence for killing a physically and mentally disabled man, Louis Gumpenberger, in 2016.
One of Hupp’s attorneys said DNA found at the murder scene does not match Hupp, but instead matches an unidentified male, a claim prosecutors dispute. Faria’s husband, Russ, was originally convicted of her murder, but his conviction was overturned as some evidence began pointing at Hupp as the real killer.
Hupp’s case has drawn worldwide attention over the years, and has been featured on NBC’s Dateline and on podcasts. It inspired the Peacock TV miniseries “The Thing About Pam,” which starred Oscar-winning actress Renee Zellweger as Pam Hupp.
