Missouri voters will get to decide on a proposed constitutional amendment authorizing a casino near the Lake of the Ozarks. A Cole County judge has ruled that the citizen-led ballot initiative did have enough valid signatures to be included on the November ballot.

Earlier this month, the Secretary of State’s office announced that backers of the casino question had not gathered enough valid signatures, falling short by more than 2,000. But Circuit Judge Daniel Green disagreed and ruled that there were enough valid signatures. Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft’s office also acknowledged there are enough valid signatures, according to the Missouri Independent.

Missouri is currently limited to 13 casinos that can only operate along the Missouri and Mississippi rivers. If passed by voters, a 14th casino license would be created and would allow a casino to be built along the Osage River between Bagnell Dam and the Missouri River.

The proposed casino would be located off of U.S. Highway 54 where it crosses the Osage River, within sight of Bagnell Dam. In an earlier interview with Missourinet, a spokesman for the Osage River Gaming and Convention Committee said Balley’s Entertainment would build the casino and adjacent convention center and that it would be a “year-round attraction.”
