The largest unsanctioned charity boat race in the U.S. returns to the Lake of the Ozarks this weekend.

The 2024 Lake of the Ozarks Shootout boat races are scheduled this Saturday and Sunday, starting at 8:30 a.m. both days. Boats from across the country come to race over the weekend, and thousands of people will watch from the water and the land.

The races will take place from approximately the 33-mile mark to the 35-mile mark at the Lake’s Osage Arm, near the Hurricane Deck bridge.

Racers go one at a time on a three-quarter mile course to see who has the fastest boat. Competing vessels will include personal watercrafts and pontoon boats, electric boats, and high-performance race boats.

The 51-foot American Ethanol Mystic was the Top Gun last year with a speed of 214 miles per hour, the fastest speed ever since the event switched from a mile to a one-and-three-quarter mile course in 2017.

Vision Marines set a new electric speed record, running an S2 catamaran (at) 109 miles per hour, and the 51-foot factory billet Outer Limits smashed the V-Bottom record with a 184 mile-per-hour run.

There were over 253 total runs over the two days last year.

The shootout raises thousands of dollars for local charities. In 2023, a record breaking $675,000 was donated to 40 organizations, including eight Lake Area fire and rescue teams.
