Drought conditions have improved slightly in Missouri over the past week.

The latest drought monitor map shows about one-third of Missouri experiencing some level of dry conditions, compared to nearly half the state a week ago. There are two pockets of moderate drought in western Missouri – one that covers Nevada and most of Bates County, and the other stretching from north of Joplin, through Neosho, and down into McDonald and Barry counties near the Arkansas border.

Abnormally dry conditions, a step below moderate, cover the Kansas City area and portions of western, northern, and southeastern Missouri.

Missouri’s drought alert is set to expire September 1st, unless Gov. Mike Parson decides to extend it.
