We still don’t know if or when Republican Josh Hawley and Democratic challenger Lucas Kunce will debate each other as they run for the U.S. Senate in Missouri. But they did briefly face off Thursday morning at the Missouri State Fair in Sedalia.

Hawley was mic’d up and had a TV camera following him around when he found Kunce in the crowd at the Governor’s Ham Breakfast.

“Where is he? Lucas Kunce! Lucas Kunce! We gonna debate today,” asked Hawley.

“How you doing, man,” asked Kunce.

“We gonna debate today,” asked Hawley.

“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” said Kunce.

“We gonna debate today? You don’t know? I read your bullsh** letter to the Farm Bureau. Are you going to sue the Farm Bureau? Come on,” said Hawley.

“You’re really obsessed with this stunt. You’re really obsessed with this stunt,” said Kunce.

“Are you gonna debate me today,” said Hawley.

“You already got the Farm Bureau and the State Fair and in trouble,” said Kunce.

Hawley repeatedly challenged Kunce to debate him at a barbecue joint in Sedalia, while Kunce repeatedly said he’s already agreed to 5 televised debates, which Hawley hasn’t yet.

Sometime after that confrontation, Gov. Mike Parson told the crowd at the breakfast that politicians need to remember that they’re public servants and that it’s not all about them.

“(It’s) not all about them. It’s about us, and sometimes they want center stage just to show that they’re here in town,” said Parson.

It’s unclear if Parson’s remarks were a subtle rebuke to either Hawley, Kunce, or both.

Missouri’s U.S. Senate race will be decided on Tuesday, November 5th.
