Missouri’s appointed state treasurer is one step closer to being elected in his own right. Vivek Malek won the Republican nomination for treasurer in Tuesday’s primaries.
Malek told Missourinet that he is living proof that the American dream is still possible.
“This would not have happened in any other place in the whole world,” said Malek. “Who could expect that you can come here with just $300 in your pocket and two suitcases, and you can achieve whatever you want. That is only possible in America and that’s the American Dream that’s alive and well.”
Malek, who was appointed by Gov. Mike Parson in 2022, is running for his first full term in office. He said that he put thousands of miles on his vehicle directly talking to the voters.
“I met so many wonderful people across the state,” he explained. “Everybody was so welcoming and kind who opened their hearts and homes and their offices to me and their businesses to me. I got an overwhelming support from wherever I went; I got an overwhelming support and I’m so indebted and grateful to all Missourians.”
Malek said that he will continue pushing his three P’s.
“Protecting taxpayers’ money. Making sure that our money is invested wisely, and we get the best rate of return on our investments,” Malek said. “Providing opportunities for growth with good job opportunities and good education and also to promote the promise of America that the American dream is still alive and well and I am the living example of that.”
He previously told Missourinet that his opponents are running to “get the job” while he is running to “do the job.”
Malek beat five other Republicans to receive the GOP nomination. He faces Democrat Mark Osmack and Libertarian John Hartwig, Jr. in November.
I want to thank my family and everyone who gave their time and energy to this campaign. I am humbled to receive the Republican nomination for State Treasurer. It has been such an honor to serve this state since 2023. pic.twitter.com/TKIgWb3iUc
