Missouri Congresswoman Cori Bush hopes that St. Louis voters will send her back to Washington. D.C. for a third time. She’s running for re-election in Tuesday’s Democratic primary for the First Congressional District.

Bush represents the city of St. Louis and portions of northern St. Louis County. She told Missourinet that her campaign is all about the people she represents.

“Wherever I am in (Washington) D.C., whatever stage or microphone I get, whether it’s a congressional hearing or the House floor, I will stand up and say, ‘St. Louis and I rise,’ because it’s St. Louis and I this is not about Cori. This is about what we need, and the only way to get that is like my daddy always said, ‘a closed mouth don’t get fed.’”

She said that she’s responsible for $2 billion in federal funding coming home to the St. Louis area

“This money didn’t just fall on St Louis. This was money that we worked for. Forty-one million of that was local community project funding. We were able to get $500 million of American Rescue Plan money for St. Louis City. So, $498 million, to be exact, and nearly 200 million for St Louis County.”

Two other Democrats are running – St. Louis County Prosecutor Wesley Bell and former state senator Maria Chappelle-Nadal. A fourth Democrat, Ron Harshaw, dropped out of the race last week and endorsed Bell.

Bush has come under heavy criticism for her pro-Palestinian stance during the war between Israel and Hamas. But she strongly insists that she’s not pro-Hamas.

“I am pro humanity. I’m pro peace,” she said. “I’m pro-democracy, pro diplomacy. I am anti-war. That has to mean every single human as we want to see Israeli safety, as we want to see the Israeli people safe, I want the same thing for Palestinians.”

Polls open statewide at 6 a.m. and close at 7 p.m. Tuesday. If you are in line by 7 p.m., you can still vote.

Beginning at 7:30 p.m. on August 6th, Missourinet will have reports about election night results at the top and bottom of the hour on Missourinet.com.
