A former Missouri lawmaker is aiming to make laws in Washington.

Dr. Bob Onder of Lake St. Louis served in both the Missouri House and Senate and is now seeking the Republican nomination for the state’s Third Congressional District, which covers a large section of eastern and central Missouri. He said that securing the southern border is one of his top priorities.

“Every state’s a border state,” he told Missourinet. “Every city is a sanctuary city because the Biden/Harris administration (has) allowed over 10 million illegal aliens into our country, and with that invasion has come a record amount of fentanyl and human trafficking.”

His priorities also include making America more energy independent.

Despite running for the Third District U.S. House seat, Onder currently lives in the Second District. He told Missourinet, though, that he lived in the Third District for more than two decades and practiced medicine there for three.

“I represented a good part of the Third Congressional District for a decade in the Missouri legislature,” he said. “Actually, we only moved just one town away to Augusta, Missouri late last year.”

State law does not forbid someone from running for a Congressional district that he or she does not live in, as long as they live in Missouri. Onder added, though, that he and his wife plan to buy a house in the Third District next month.

As for the incumbent Luetkemeyer, he has endorsed one of Onder’s opponents for the job, former State Senator Kurt Schaefer. But Onder said he’s already received the most important endorsement, from former president Donald Trump.

“You know, I think the agenda that Donald Trump and Republicans around the country and that I am running on the agenda of making America great again, the idea of making America prosperous again, securing our borders and public safety,” Onder said.

Other Republicans running for the Third District Congressional seat include Bruce Bowman, Kyle Bone, Chad Bicknell, and Arnie Dienoff. Two Democrats are running for the Third District seat: Bethany Mann and Andrew Daly. Jordan Rowden is the Libertarian Party nominee.
