President Joe Biden has officially dropped out of the race for president, sending ripples through the political landscape. Missouri Senate Democratic Leader Doug Beck, D-Affton, salutes Biden for his service to country by praising Biden’s accomplishments.

“Including record employment, the strongest post-pandemic economic rebound of any developed country, passing historic legislation to combat climate change, bringing manufacturing jobs back to American soil, capping the cost of insulin, supporting workers’ right to join a Union, and so much more,” he told Missourinet.

Pointing to Biden dropping out of the race, several top Missouri Republicans, including Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft, are calling for Biden’s immediate resignation.

Sen. Beck said that the news initially shocked and surprised him, but also gave him hope for the future.

“I kind of got reenergized and felt like this could be an opportunity, you know, to energize our party, energize our country and maybe answer some of the questions that have been posed by both sides of the aisle where the folks did not want either one of these candidates to run,” Beck said.

Beck referring to not just the incumbent, Joe Biden, but also Republican Donald Trump.

Beck will serve as one of Missouri’s delegates at the Democratic National Convention next month in Chicago. He also made clear that he’s there to represent Missouri’s interests.

“I’m going to try and support the people that reach out to me, Missourians, that’s who I’m here representing and we’re going to go forward with that,” said Beck. “I’m not going to put my thumb on the scale and try to decide, you know, that I think is best. I think it’s going to come clear who people want, and we’ll see how that plays out.”

Because there is no longer a Democratic frontrunner, Beck wants Missourians reach out to him via email or social media to provide input for who they would like to see as president.
