Rumors and reports are circling social media and getting mainstream attention that Joe Biden may be dropping out of the presidential race in a matter of days. Terry Smith, a political science professor at Columbia College in central Missouri, said Democrats are in a “true bind.”
“Joe Biden and the Democratic Party right now have a big problem, and they’ve got a fairly short period of time to straighten it out,” Smith told Missourinet. “And whether that means Biden stepping aside or not, you know, certainly remains to be determined.”
Smith suggests that if Biden does drop out, Democrats would need to pick someone with enough name recognition to be able to raise enough money to win the presidential race.
“Okay, Biden steps aside – now what?” Smith said. “Do you start over? How do you raise money, especially if it’s somebody who’s not a national figure?”
The Democratic National Convention begins one month from now, running from August 19th through the 22nd in Chicago.
