It’s official – Donald Trump and JD Vance received the official nomination for president and vice president at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
Missouri Secretary of State Jay Ashcroft is serving as an RNC delegate. Ashcroft told Missourinet that Vance being selected as Trump’s VP pick on Monday has excited the Republican Party.
“It was electric. High fives. Fist flyouts. You know, knuckles,” said Ashcroft. “People are so hungry for a change, and they look at Donald Trump, they look at JD Vance and they say that’s going to make the difference.”
Former Missouri U.S. Senator, Democrat Claire McCaskill, called out the Republican Party for nominating Vance saying, “This guy shows that they’re sure that he would never stand for the Constitution before he would stand for Donald Trump.”

Pointing to leadership, Ashcroft said that the former president is what this country needs right now.
“It is amazing how having a president that was shot, and before he went off to make sure he got any medical attention he needed, he stood up to let the people of America know that he would not stop fighting for them, that he was going to make sure that they were put first no matter what happened to him,” he explained.
The Republican National Convention continues through Thursday in Milwaukee, despite the attempted assassination of Trump.
