Missouri’s airports are on pace to fly past last year’s totals for the number of guns confiscated from passengers.
The Transportation Security Administration has released figures for eight of Missouri’s airports during the first six months of 2024. TSA agents confiscated 43 firearms at Kansas City International Airport from January to June, which already exceeds the entire number of guns seized there last year at 41.
At St. Louis-Lambert International Airport, 37 guns have been seized so far this year, compared to 51 seized during all of 2023.
Thirteen guns were confiscated during the first half of this year at Springfield National Airport, and three were taken at Columbia Regional Airport. None were found at airports in Joplin, Cape Girardeau, Ft. Leonard Wood, or Kirksville during the same time frame this year or for all of last year.
Nationwide, 3,269 firearms have been confiscated from airports between January and June of this year. That’s slightly more than all the guns seized in 2023, which added up to 3,251.
