Missouri continues to dry out while the river bearing the state’s name floods.

The latest drought monitor map shows abnormally dry areas in west-central, southwest, and far southern Missouri have grown in size since last week as a large area of moderate drought continues in the northeastern part of the state. Nearly 75% of Missouri is not experiencing any drought conditions, but that number is lower than last week’s 82%.

But flooding from massive rainfall in northern Iowa and South Dakota is pushing southward along the Missouri River basin.

The latest flood warning stretches from just northeast of Independence to just southwest of Columbia in central Missouri. The stretch of the Missouri River from just north of Kansas City to the Iowa border and beyond is also under a flood warning.
