An abnormally dry area in northeastern Missouri has grown in size.

The latest drought monitor map shows the near-circular area covering most of the northeastern part of the state and portions of north-central Missouri.

Meanwhile, most of southeastern Missouri is no longer seeing drought conditions. The only exceptions are a few abnormally dry spots in the far southern Bootheel and in portions of Carter, Reynolds, Shannon, and Howell counties.

Despite much-improved conditions over the last month, Missouri remains under a drought alert through September first.
