To keep the minds of young people working over the summer, Missouri is offering free online classes for youth ages 14 to 18. Jerri Bowles, with the Missouri Department of Higher Education and Workforce Development, told Missourinet that the state created a learning platform just for them.

There are about 7,000 courses to choose from through Coursera.

“There’s a lot of different tech training courses in there, a lot of new AI courses, all the way from beginning AI, all the way up to more advanced AI. They could learn a language over the summer,” said Bowles.

She said some of the courses will help students to save on college tuition.

“We know that a lot of our youth currently do dual credits while they’re in high school. And one of the selling points, I believe, would be that a lot of the courses within Coursera are ACE certified. So, that means they could go to their college and see if they would allow that to be counted towards college credit,” said Bowles.

The courses allow students to go at their own pace.

Missouri offers free Coursera courses for adults as well.
