Kansas lawmakers are again attempting to lure the Kansas City Chiefs across the state line to build a new football stadium in the Sunflower State.

The Kansas Legislature is scheduled to hold a special session this month on tax cuts, but legislation will also be introduced to issue special bonds to finance a new stadium. According to the Kansas City Star, the Sales Tax and Revenue bonds, or STAR bonds, would contain 30-year terms and could be used to pay up to 100% of the costs of a new stadium.

The Speaker of the Kansas House and President of the Senate have sent a letter to Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt asking him to consider the proposal.

Voters in Jackson County, Missouri rejected a proposed sales tax exemption this year that would have been used to cover renovations for Arrowhead Stadium and help fund a new ballpark for the Kansas City Royals.
