There’s been one upside to the severe weather that hit southeastern Missouri over Memorial Day weekend – it nearly wiped out drought conditions there.
The latest drought monitor now shows 94.2% of Missouri is no longer experiencing any drought. Only the Bootheel and a small section of southeastern Missouri are experiencing “abnormally dry” conditions.
Despite the vast improvements, Missouri remains under a drought alert through September 1.
Just over a month ago, more than 72% of Missouri was experiencing drought conditions. Nearly three months ago, on March 5, more than 99% of the Show-Me State was parched by some level of drought condition.
