U.S. Rep. Ann Wagner, R-Missouri 2nd District, is cosponsoring a bill that would reevaluate America’s relationship with Qatar.

The small, Middle Eastern country is considered a key non-NATO ally – however, Qatar is also reportedly giving safe haven to some top leaders of Hamas, the Gaza-based terrorist group that launched attacks against Israel.

Hamas’s political offices are located in Qatar’s capital city, Doha. At the same time, the country has helped to negotiate the release of some hostages taken by Hamas.

In a press release, Wagner said Qatar “must stop protecting the architects” of last year’s attacks in Israel, and if they won’t, her bill would direct the U.S. State Department to “terminate” the country’s non-NATO ally status.

It’s co-sponsored by U.S. Rep. Jared Golden, D-Maine 2nd District.
