The fight to legalize sports betting could be in full swing this week. The Missouri House of Representatives is scheduled to debate a bill that would legalize sports gambling.

Rep. Dan Houx, R-Warrensburg, is sponsoring the proposal that would allow Missouri adults to place bets on sporting events.

What are the odds of the bill passing? The House could pass the proposal but it is expected to have a steep hill to climb in the Senate, mainly due to Sen. Denny Hoskins, R-Warrensburg. He has blocked similar bills in recent years because he says he wants to also regulate video lottery machines often found in bars, restaurants, and gas stations.

A campaign is underway to ask Missouri voters in November to legalize sports betting. The St. Louis Cardinals and other Missouri pro teams have teamed up to gather signatures for this initiative.
