The Missouri Democratic Party has officially endorsed efforts to legalize abortion through amending the State Constitution.

The party made that announcement following a meeting held Saturday. Eleven ballot initiatives have been approved for circulation so far that would allow most abortions to resume in Missouri. Abortions were outlawed nearly two years ago when the state’s near-total abortion ban took effect within hours of the U.S. Supreme Court overturning Roe-v-Wade.

Abortions in Missouri are only legal when the mother’s life is in danger, but there has been confusion over which medical emergencies constitute a threat to the life of a pregnant woman.

There is a lawsuit over some of the ballot language used by the Secretary of State’s office, which those suing say is designed to discourage voters from legalizing abortions.
