Missouri is pushing back against efforts to stop commercial sales of ammunition produced at the Lake City Army Ammunition Plant in Independence.
Twenty Democratic attorneys general penned a letter to President Biden saying that the military-grade ammo produced at the plant has been used in numerous fatal mass shootings across the country. The letter mentions school shootings in Parkland, Florida and Uvalde, Texas; the mass shooting at a synagogue in Pittsburgh; and the supermarket mass shooting in Buffalo, New York.
The Democratic attorneys general are asking the White House to investigate the Lake City ammo plant and to take steps to ban sales of ammo made there to the public.
In response, Missouri Attorney General Andrew Bailey and 27 other Republican attorneys general are asking the president to ignore the letter from the Democrats, saying that Lake City also produces civilian-grade ammunition which is made available to the public. Bailey also said banning commercial sales of ammo made at Lake City would result in 500 to 700 employees losing their jobs.
