More than $8 billion have now been forwarded to public education throughout the state by the Missouri Lottery.
That milestone was reached Friday when the Lottery office transferred just over $35 million made from ticket sales in October into the Lottery Proceeds Fund. The exact total is $8,028,694,638, which accounts for sales throughout the history of the Missouri Lottery dating back to 1986.
Recipients of lottery proceeds include public school districts, community colleges, and state universities. According to a written statement, the lottery has provided more than $1.2 billion to the four campuses that make up the University of Missouri System.
The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education’s budget for the current fiscal year (FY2024) includes more than $432 million in Missouri Lottery proceeds. The Missouri Department of Higher Education has been allotted more than $95 million in lottery proceeds this fiscal year.
