As some Missourians prepare to travel abroad for the upcoming holiday season, there continues to be delays in getting passports processed. U.S. Senator Josh Hawley, R-Missouri, said his office is trying to speed up the passport requests for travelers.

“We continue to help anybody and everybody who needs a passport,” Hawley told Missourinet. “If you need a passport or some of your family does, please contact us. What we’ve seen are reports of delays in our state and around the country, frankly.”

Other members of Missouri’s congressional delegation have been handling large numbers of requests from constituents who’ve been waiting several months for their passports to arrive.

“People often come to us on a pretty short timeframe, sometimes because they’ve tried themselves to apply or they’ve had a family member and it’s been delayed and delayed and they can’t get any help and then they come to us,” Hawley said. “We are often working on tight timelines.”

U.S. State Department leaders have said they’re working on reducing the backlog of passport applications.
