The U.S. House has been without a speaker for three weeks – putting potential aid for the wars in Ukraine and Israel on the backburner.

Southwest Missouri Congressman Eric Burlison told Missourinet in some aspects, Ukraine has already won the war against Russia.

“And I say that because Russia has not and will not take over the country of Ukraine,” said Burlison. “The only items in Ukraine that are in dispute are Crimea, and the Donbas region.”

Burlison said a win for the world is for the war to stop now.

“Russia has been weakened to the point where they are looking for an exit and if we can provide some, you know, some opportunities, some exits, some negotiations for peace, then I think that that’s what America should be pursuing,” he said.

He said America should be helping to negotiate for peace – instead of sending more funding to Ukraine.

“But us continuing to fund a battle that, you know, in Europe when we have our own border problems, we have all of these other disasters happening in the United States, I think is just it’s inappropriate and it’s insulting to the American people,” he said.

According to the Kiel Institute for the World Economy, the Biden Administration and Congress have provided more than $75 billion in aid to Ukraine, including humanitarian, financial, and military support.

The Council on Foreign Relations says Russia will almost certainly retain control of a large chunk of Ukrainian territory at the end of the year. Next year, with the aid of new weapons, the council says Ukrainians have a chance to liberate more territory.
