A convicted sex offender who escaped from a hospital in St. Louis County is back in prison.
Tommy Boyd, 45, is serving a 30-year sentence at the Potosi Correctional Center in eastern Missouri for enticing a child to commit sex acts. He’d been taken to Mercy Hospital South in St. Louis County Wednesday for an unnamed medical emergency. But he managed to walk out of the hospital Thursday morning and disappear for several hours before being captured inside a grocery store seven miles away.
Multiple reports said Boyd escaped while one guard was asleep and the other was taking a bathroom break. A press release from the Missouri Department of Corrections said its investigation has concluded that departmental protocol was not followed while Boyd was at Mercy Hospital South. The department said that personnel action has been taken against the two D.O.C. officers.
Boyd also served nine years in prison for an earlier conviction for committing sex acts against an eleven-year-old boy.
