A small, formal prayer service held nightly at the steps of the State Capitol has ended, though organizers say the prayers for the country will continue. Organizer Jan Neher of Jefferson City with the group People for Peace says the services began February 15th in freezing rain with only two in attendance. Sometimes only six or eight showed up, but the prayers continued until the final service at the end of March with about 30 in attendance. Neher says several were disappointed when the decision was made to go to war with Iraq. She says the gathering was never intended to become an anti-war protest, but instead, it was to be a small prayer service for peace not only in America, but throughout the globe.
