11th ranked Mizzou Women’s Basketball (17-4, 5-3) lost at No. 9 South Carolina 64-54, dropping their second game in a row against a ranked team on the road on Sunday.

Sophie Cunningham scored a team-high 18 points, and Jordan Frericks added 10.

The bad blood continued between both teams.  Late in the first half, Missouri’s Kayla Michael and South Carolina’s Alexis Jennings fought for a rebound and fell hard to the floor. Players from both sides ran in as shoving and bumping took play. Missouri’s Jordan Roundtree and Nadia Green were ejected for coming off the bench though neither enter the fray.  Video replay showed at least one Carolina player leaving the floor yet no ejections were handed out to USC.

Doniyah Cliney sucker pushed/punched Cunningham in the face as team gathered around the scuffle.  Cunningham and Cliney were assessed unsportsmanlike fouls.

Amber Smith tied the game at 49 with 4:32 to play after the Tigers came back from a double digit deficit, but Mizzou missed their next five shots and turned the ball over three times down the stretch.

Mizzou shot 40 percent from the field and held the Gamecocks to 34.5 percent shooting, but South Carolina converted 14 more free throws and took 18 more attempts at the line to seal a win after the Tigers were forced to foul.
