STATEMENT FROM MIZZOU MEN’S BASKETBALL

Terrence Phillips has been suspended indefinitely from the Mizzou Men’s Basketball program for a violation of team policy. Phillips’ future status with the program will be determined in coordination with campus and department leadership.

Phillips was the team’s second point guard on this roster.  Jordan Geist was inserted into the starting role with Kassius Robertson picking up some of the slack at the point guard position as minutes seemed to decline for Phillips.

Earlier this season, head coach Cuonzo Martin praised Phillips for continuing to be a good leader despite seeing his role diminish.

At the beginning of the season, point guard appeared to be the deepest position for Mizzou.  C.J. Roberts was red-shirted and ultimately decided to transfer in early December.  Freshman Blake Harris, convinced by Michael Porter Jr. to follow him to Mizzou left right after the start of SEC play and now the suspension of Phillips.

I refer you back to my tweet from @Missourisports on January 5th when I predicted that Harris leaving the program would be a terrible blow to the Mizzou basketball program.  Harris showed the most promise for talent and ability to create offense.  While Mizzou fans have criticized me for coming down hard on Jeremiah Tilmon for the foul trouble he gets into, asking me how I can be so tough on a freshman…that same allowance of making freshman mistakes were not given to Harris?
