Blues respond to wake up call shutting out the Sens

January 24, 2018 By Bill Pollock

Sens goalie Craig Anderson allows a shot from Vladimir Sobotka to trickle through

Carter Hutton denied all 25 shots as the Blues blanked the Senators 3-0 at Scottrade Center in St. Louis.  Vladimir Sobotka, Vladimir Tarasenko and Braden Schenn scored for St. Louis.

Coach Mike Yeo switched up the lines, going with seven defensemen and only 11 forwards.  It’s the second time Yeo has employed that type of lineup and in both instances his team has responded with wins.

“When we did it last time, I liked the response we got from the group of our forwards,” Yeo said. “They seemed to really embrace the idea of having some extra opportunity there and seemed to be real engaged, not just for the expected shifts that they were going to get. You come back to the bench and have to be ready, you don’t know if you’re going (back) at any time, so it seems to keep you really engaged.”

The Blues are third in the Central Division with 61 points.  They host the Avalanche tomorrow.
