A Missouri House committee is expected to hear and vote on a key ethics bill Monday in Jefferson City.

The Missouri House General Laws Committee meets Monday at noon to hold a hearing on ethics legislation from State Rep. Justin Alferman, R-Hermann.
His bill bans gifts from lobbyists.
It does include exemptions for flowers, plants and any expenditure that includes all 197 state lawmakers, such as Wednesday’s “Taste of Jefferson City” meal event.
Committee chairman State Rep. Robert Cornejo, R-St. Peters, tells Missourinet he plans on bringing the Alferman bill up for a vote on Monday.
House Speaker Todd Richardson, R-Poplar Bluff, told the Capitol Press Corps on opening day that he plans to send the Alferman bill to the Missouri Senate this week.
The House approved the Alferman bill last January in a bipartisan 149-5 vote, but it died in the Senate in May.
Meantime, Missouri House Democrats have filed their own comprehensive ethics package.
House Minority Leader Gail McCann Beatty, D-Kansas City, says Democrats are pushing a bill to prohibit government officials or employees from using data-purging applications, while conducting public business.
