The Oakland Raiders scored a couple of touchdowns midway through the fourth quarter, but at that point the game was over. In one of their best all-around games since September, Kansas City put together a dominating 26-15 win on Sunday at Arrowhead Stadium to split the season series with their hated rival in the AFC West.
Unlike the first matchup, when Derek Carr threw wherever and whenever, the Chiefs defense harassed Oakland’s QB holding him to 24-41 for 211 yards with only one touchdown and two picks. They also dropped three times for sacks. Defensive end Chris Jones had one of those sacks and two tackles for loss.
The offense was able to put points on the board for the second week in a row and while they may have traded touchdowns for field goals, Alex Smith moved the offense with 268 yards passing on 20 of 34 completions. He had one interception that came after the Chiefs picked off Carr in the third quarter. Kareem Hunt returned to early season form with his first touchdown in 10 weeks and 116 yards on 25 carries. It was the second week in a row that offensive coordinator Matt Nagy took over the playcalling.
Harrison Butker kicked four more field goals setting the Chiefs single season record and he did so after joining the team in week four.
The Chiefs improve to 7-6, dropping Oakland a game behind in division and able to keep pace with the Chargers who have a early lead on Washington.
