National Weather Service confirms tornado hit northern Missouri

A tornado has destroyed homes in northern Missouri’s Randolph County. Local emergency management director Jim Cherrier says the National Weather Service has surveyed the damage to confirm Monday night’s tornado.

“A narrow tornado passed from Higbee through Renick, across Highway 63, approximately four miles along Route NN, and sustained maximum winds of approximately 100 miles an hour,” says Cherrier.

He says six properties, including four homes, were damaged in the storm. Two were destroyed.

Two people are suffering from injuries they received from the tornado.

Cherrier says his office and the Randolph County Sheriff’s Office also helped with initial damage assessments.
