Direct flights from St. Louis to Cancun will soon take off from Lambert International Airport. Director Rhonda Hamm-Niebruegge tells Missourinet Southwest Airlines’ new weekly service will begin this month.

Southwest Airlines prepares for weekly and daily St. Louis to Cancun flights

“They announced earlier this summer that they would do a Saturday-only operation, starting November 11. Because of the bookings being so strong, they were so excited that they opted to go ahead and on the March schedule create daily service,” says Hamm-Niebruegge. “Cancun, we know, has been a strong market out of St. Louis with our other partners. We know that our airplanes out of here fill up consistently with Caribbean markets.”

About 265 flights leave out of Lambert on a daily basis with roughly 107 being Southwest flights.

“The reason we are seeing growth, I think, is purely a demand. The airlines look at what markets they can actually fill seats and what markets they can make revenue in,” she says.

The Dallas-based airline is the busiest carrier at St. Louis Lambert International Airport.
