Former Chiefs kicker boots 53 yard FG to beat Kansas City

December 18, 2016 By Bill Pollock

Ryan Succop kicked a 53-yard field goal into the wind as time expired Sunday to give the Tennessee Titans a 19-17 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs on a frigid afternoon at Arrowhead Stadium.

Succop’s first attempt came up short, but Chiefs coach Andy Reid had called a timeout just before the snap. On his second chance, Succop knocked it through capping off a fourth quarter comeback.

The Chiefs let 17-7 slip away after Derrick Henry’s second touchdown got Tennessee within 17-16 with just over three minutes left. Kansas City was unable to pick up enough first downs to run out the clock and Tennessee got the ball back with a minute left. With no timeouts, Mariota got the Titans down close enough for Succop’s field-goal attempt.
